CORSICANA, TX — A 29-year-old Navarro County man has been sentenced to 55 years in state prison after a jury convicted him of exploiting his position as a trusted family friend to systematically abuse a 16-year-old girl and pull her into a lifestyle of narcotics trafficking.
On Tuesday, a jury in the 13th District Court handed down the 55-year term of confinement within the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) for Jeremy Edward Davila.
Exploiting Two Decades of Trust
Court evidence revealed that Davila, who was 28 at the time the offenses began, was a close friend of the victim's family and had known the child since she was approximately six years old.
In the fall of 2023, the family officially entrusted Davila to look after the teenager. Prosecutors proved that within just two days of being granted that oversight, Davila initiated a predatory six-month sexual relationship with the minor. Over the course of the next half-year, the victim was subjected to continuous sexual assault, physical domestic abuse, and was introduced to hard drugs.
The pattern of abuse was broken in April 2024 when the victim found the courage to disclose the situation to her mother. The mother contacted law enforcement immediately, launching a deep-dive investigation managed by Corsicana Police Detective Alexandra Holden.
Forensic Digital Audits Expose Abuse and Drug Dealing
Detective Holden built the state's case by executing targeted cell phone extractions on both the victim's and the defendant's mobile devices. The highly technical digital forensic work was completed through the specialized extraction expertise of Investigator John Dickey of Kaufman County.
The recovered data yielded overwhelming evidence of the ongoing abuse, including direct videos of the sexual assault captured by the child herself. Furthermore, the phone logs and text streams exposed that Davila had actively integrated the teenager into his ongoing illicit narcotics distribution operations.
To establish the behavioral impact of the trauma, the state called Dr. Lydia Bailey of the Children’s Advocacy Center, who conducted the victim's initial interviews and provided expert testimony during the trial regarding the complex psychological dynamics of sustained physical and sexual abuse.
Jailhouse Intimidation Backfires Before Jury
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Jacob Shaw and Amber Slaton, with specialized support from Victim Assistance Coordinator Vivyan Corpus.
During the trial phase, prosecutors introduced the victim's mother to the stand. She provided emotional testimony regarding her deep historical trust in Davila, the sudden behavioral shifts she observed in her daughter, and the physical marks and bruises she discovered on the child's body. The state also reinforced Davila's criminal background by introducing a prior conviction for Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver.
The District Attorney's Office uncovered that even while held behind bars during the active trial, Davila continued his abusive behavior by calling the teenage victim from the jail phones, attempting to manipulate her by stating that any lengthy prison sentence he received would be entirely her fault.
At her own explicit request, the victim did not testify during the trial. Davila’s defense counsel failed to call a single character or alibi witness to testify on his behalf. The jury returned a swift guilty verdict on the Sexual Assault of a Child indictment before delivering the 55-year sentence.
