GREENVILLE, Texas — Student-athletes from Greenville Independent School District delivered a strong showing at the Terrell Special Olympics Track and Field Meet on April 10, bringing home more than 35 medals.
More than 16 Greenville ISD athletes competed in a full day of events, participating in running competitions as well as field events such as shot put, javelin, tennis ball throw and softball throw. District officials said students earned top finishes across multiple events.
The meet is one of several opportunities for students to demonstrate their athletic skills while building confidence, teamwork and personal growth through the Special Olympics program.
Courtney Baker, Director of Special Education, praised the athletes for both their performance and sportsmanship.
“Our students continue to impress us with their athletic abilities, but more importantly, with how they carry themselves,” Baker said. “They represent Greenville ISD in such a positive way, and we are incredibly proud of their effort, their growth, and the way they support one another.”

The district’s Special Olympics program focuses on providing inclusive opportunities for students of all abilities to compete and be recognized.
Greenville ISD will continue that celebration when it hosts its own Special Olympics Track and Field event on May 7 at T.A. Cotton Ford Stadium. The event will welcome families, staff and community members to support student-athletes.
“We’re excited to welcome our families and community out to our home event,” Baker said. “It’s a chance to celebrate our students and everything they’ve accomplished.”
District leaders say events like these highlight Greenville ISD’s commitment to inclusion and creating meaningful opportunities for every student.
