Argument Turns Deadly in Lufkin Shooting; Man Charged with Murder

LUFKIN, Texas — A 43-year-old man is dead and another is in custody following a shooting early Friday morning in Lufkin.

According to Lufkin Police, officers were dispatched around 1:30 a.m. to a disturbance in the 600 block of Chester Street. As officers arrived on scene, one individual at the home was yelling, “he shot my uncle.”

Officers encountered 42-year-old Alex Dewayne Walker outside the home. Police said Walker complied with commands and laid on the ground with his hands behind his back. A 9mm handgun was recovered from his front pants pocket.

Inside the residence, officers found Korsah Lemar Simmons, 43, on the bedroom floor with multiple gunshot wounds. Officers began lifesaving measures until EMS arrived. Simmons was transported to a local hospital, where he later died.

Investigators said the shooting followed an argument between the two men.

Walker was arrested and charged with murder. He was booked into the Angelina County Jail, where his bond has been set at $500,000.

The investigation remains ongoing.
