Two Arrested After Dog Shot, Injured in Sherman; Animal Expected to Recover

SHERMAN, Texas — Two men have been arrested and charged after a dog was shot and seriously injured Sunday afternoon, according to Sherman police.

Officers responded around 4:40 p.m. on March 29, 2026, to the 200 block of North Grand Avenue following reports of a dog being shot with a pellet gun.

When officers arrived, they were told the dog had been yelping for an extended period. During the investigation, officers located two individuals with the injured animal. Police said Bush was holding a hammer while standing over the dog when officers made contact.

Investigators determined the dog had been shot, and both men admitted to attempting to euthanize the animal.  The two were identified as 41-year-old Gary Robin Larkins II (aka Froggy) and 52-year-old Thomas Christopher Bush.

Larkins and Bush were arrested and charged with Cruelty to Non-Livestock Animals Causing Serious Bodily Injury, a third-degree felony. Their bond has been set at $20,000.

Sherman Animal Services took custody of the dog, now named Olivia, and transported her to a local veterinary emergency hospital. Authorities said Olivia suffered significant injuries to her head and face but is expected to survive. She is currently recovering at the Sherman Animal Shelter.

If convicted, both men face between two and 10 years in prison and a possible fine of up to $10,000.
