Man Tased And Arrested After Threatening Deputy With Shotgun In Newton County

Keve Cooper Blacksher Jr.

A Newton County man was arrested Tuesday evening after allegedly threatening a deputy with a shotgun during a civil dispute call.

On March 17, 2026, around 5:58 p.m., Deputy Boyett responded to the 300 block of FM 2626 in Newton, Texas.

Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with Keve Cooper Blacksher Jr., who was involved in the dispute.

Authorities said Blacksher became increasingly hostile during the investigation. He then exited his residence waving a shotgun and ordered the deputy to leave the property.

After repeated commands, Blacksher eventually dropped the weapon.

Officials said Blacksher then approached the deputy, made verbal threats, and attempted to strike him in the head but missed.

Blacksher then turned and began walking back toward the shotgun. At that point, Deputy Boyett deployed a Taser.

Blacksher was taken into custody without further incident and transported to the Newton County Jail.

He is charged with aggravated assault against a public servant, a first-degree felony.

Sheriff Colton Havard praised the deputy’s response, citing restraint and professionalism during a dangerous situation.
