Honey Grove Man Charged With Murder After Woman Found Dead Inside Fannin County Home

Landon Ball and Julie Ball (victim)

FANNIN COUNTY, Texas - A Honey Grove man is facing murder and family-violence charges after police responding to a medical call discovered a woman dead inside a residence last week, authorities said.

Officers with the Honey Grove Police Department were dispatched at approximately 8:48 a.m. on Jan. 31, 2026, to a home in the 500 block of Pecan Street for an unknown medical emergency.

When officers and medical personnel entered the residence, they encountered the caller, identified as 45-year-old Landon Sorrells Ball, lying on a bed in a bedroom while holding a knife and suffering from apparent self-inflicted injuries. Officers were able to safely gain control of the situation, and Ball was detained and treated by EMS.

After securing Ball, officers discovered a deceased woman lying on the floor inside the home. The woman was later identified as Julie Elizabeth Moran Ball. She showed no signs of life and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Julie Ball was transported to the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office, where an autopsy was ordered to determine the cause of death.

Landon Ball was transported to TMC Denison for treatment of his injuries. Upon his release, he was taken to the Fannin County Jail, where he was initially booked on an aggravated assault charge with bond set at $2 million.

An active investigation into the woman’s death was immediately launched, with assistance from the Texas Rangers. Investigators said the incident appears to be related to a domestic situation.

On Feb. 3, 2026, additional arrest warrants were obtained charging Ball with murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon involving family violence. Those warrants were served while Ball remained in custody, with bond set at $1.5 million for each charge.

The investigation remains ongoing, and no further details have been released. Police asked that the families involved be kept in the community’s thoughts and prayers.
