Texas Rangers Investigate Officer-Involved Shooting After 911 Call in Sherman

SHERMAN, Texas - The Texas Rangers are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred Monday morning after Sherman police responded to a 911 hang-up call, according to Sherman Police Chief Jason Jeffcoat.

Police were dispatched at approximately 10:28 a.m. on Feb. 2, 2026, to the 700 block of Kessler Boulevard. During the response, an officer encountered a suspect who was armed with an object capable of causing harm, Jeffcoat said.

According to police, the suspect charged toward the officer, prompting the officer to discharge a department-issued firearm, striking the suspect. Officers immediately rendered first aid, and the suspect was transported to a local hospital, where they remain in stable condition. The officer involved was not injured.

In keeping with standard protocol for officer-involved shootings, the investigation has been turned over to the Texas Rangers.

Jeffcoat said the department is committed to transparency as the investigation continues.

“When critical incidents occur, we know they can raise questions,” said Jason Jeffcoat. “Please know we take these situations very seriously and are committed to a full and transparent review.”

The Sherman Police Department said no additional details will be released at this time while the investigation remains ongoing.
