MARSHALL, TX - Marshall police arrested a burglary suspect early Friday morning after a citizen reported a break-in in progress on East End Boulevard South, highlighting the role of public cooperation in stopping crime as it happens.
Officers with the Marshall Police Department were dispatched around the morning of Jan. 30 to the 5600 block of East End Blvd. South after a caller reported that his building had been broken into and that a male suspect was still inside the property. Responding officers arrived quickly and arrested James Claypool, 60, who was charged with Burglary of a Building. No injuries were reported.
Police Chief Carruth said the arrest underscores the importance of timely reporting by the public. “This is a good example of how alert citizens and quick communication with police help stop crime in progress,” Carruth said. “When people pay attention to what’s happening around them and report it right away, it allows our officers to respond quickly and safely.”
The Marshall Police Department is encouraging residents to remain observant and to report suspicious activity as soon as possible. Officials say useful information includes descriptions of a person’s appearance or clothing, vehicles involved, and the direction of travel.
Police also reminded the public that safety comes first. Citizens are advised to observe and report suspicious activity only and not to confront or approach individuals involved in criminal activity.
According to the department, cooperation between residents and law enforcement remains an essential part of maintaining safety in the Marshall community.
