The Como-Pickton CISD Board of Trustees has selected long-time district administrator Lydia Walden as the Lone Finalist for Superintendent, announcing the decision at their most recent board meeting.
Walden brings 42 years of experience in public education, including 26 years with Como-Pickton CISD. She previously served as Assistant Superintendent before stepping into the Interim Superintendent role. Her career has also included teaching and administrative positions in Mt. Vernon, Sulphur Springs, Garland, and Highland Park ISD.
“I just want to say thank you for all the support, and thank you for the belief in me,” Walden told attendees. “To the board … I am deeply honored and humbled and want to say thank you for trusting me with this enormous responsibility and the care of our CP students and staff.”
Walden said her focus will remain on maintaining high expectations while ensuring that every student gets the support they need to succeed. “Every decision we make must lift students. When we lead with purpose, collaboration, and heart, schools become places where every child sees possibility — and every educator feels valued.”
She added that Como-Pickton holds a special place in her life. Walden and her husband, Eric, live in Sulphur Springs and are parents of four grown children and grandparents to seven.
“This district and community mean so much to me, and I look forward to continuing our shared commitment to doing what’s best for our students, staff, and stakeholders who make CPCISD such a special place,” she said.
State law requires a 21-day waiting period before a Lone Finalist can be officially hired. Walden is expected to formally assume the superintendent role once that period concludes.
