Commerce Police Arrest Suspect Accused of Scamming Local Businesses

Rahim Budhwani

COMMERCE, Texas — The Commerce Police Department arrested a suspect accused of targeting local businesses through an ongoing takeout scam investigation.

On or about February 26, 2026, officers became aware of individuals allegedly attempting to defraud area businesses by falsely claiming their food or takeout orders were incorrect. According to police, the suspects would then attempt to obtain additional food, services, or refunds under false pretenses.

Commerce Police worked alongside a local business that reported an active attempt to obtain goods and services through deception. When a suspect arrived at the business and continued the alleged scam in person, officers and detectives who were already waiting at the location took Rahim Budhwani into custody.

Budhwani was arrested and charged with Theft of Service.

The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities believe additional incidents involving local businesses may be connected.
