DORCHESTER, TEXAS – A Melissa man has been arrested in connection with a fatal crash that claimed the life of a Celina woman early Sunday morning, according to the Southmayd Police Department.
On October 19, 2025, at approximately 2:00 a.m., Southmayd Police officers responded to a major motor vehicle crash near the intersection of Highway 289 and Valerie Lane in Dorchester, Texas. The collision involved two vehicles and resulted in the death of one driver.
Investigators identified the victim as 56-year-old Kim Key of Celina, Texas. Key was pronounced deceased at the scene.
According to the department, investigators determined that alcohol was believed to be a contributing factor in the crash. After conducting a comprehensive investigation, detectives obtained an arrest warrant on October 21, 2025, for 30-year-old Justin Ray Deleon of Melissa, Texas. Deleon faces a charge of Intoxication Manslaughter, a second-degree felony under Texas law. The warrant was issued with a $1,000,000 bond.
Deleon was initially hospitalized at Medical City Plano following the crash, where he remained under medical care. Once he was medically cleared and discharged on October 22, 2025, officers from the Southmayd Police Department took him into custody and transported him to the Grayson County Jail.
Authorities have not released additional details about the events leading up to the crash or the results of any toxicology tests, citing the ongoing investigation.
The Southmayd Police Department expressed its sympathy to the victim’s family in a statement released Wednesday morning.
“The Southmayd Police Department extends its deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Ms. Key during this incredibly difficult time,” the department said. “Our thoughts and prayers remain with all families affected by this tragic incident.”
