On October 17, 2025, at around 2:30 a.m., the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call at a residence in the Cedar Creek Cove Subdivision of Mabank, Texas.
Deputies discovered multiple individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. Three adults, two females and one male, were pronounced deceased (two at the scene, one at UT Health Gun Barrel City). Two additional adult males were injured and transported to UT Health Hospital in Tyler for treatment. Identities of the deceased are pending autopsy confirmation.
The suspect, Christopher Kyle Reid Jr., 29, was reportedly involved in a separate incident at a Buc-ee's in Ennis, Texas, shortly after, where he sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Before shooting himself, Ennis Police say that he drove into the Buc-ee’s building at around 5 am. A woman was injured after the vehicle hit her and pinned her against a sales display. She was taken to the hospital and is expected to recover.
The investigation is ongoing, with Henderson County Sheriff’s Office, Texas Rangers, and Henderson County District Attorney’s Office working together to gather facts and ensure a thorough review.
UPDATE: The victims were identified as 51-year-old Kimberly Simpson, 72-year-old Connie Patrick and 57-year-old Ronny Hammonds. The two transported to the hospital were 24-year-old Colton Reid who is in stable condition and 70-year-old Henry Hopgood who is listed in critical condition.
