Rockwall, Texas – On Monday, October 6, 2025, around 9:22 p.m., Rockwall Police officers responded to a call in the 2500 block of Wagonwheel Drive after 49-year-old Harold Eugene Jones, III reported that he believed two people were hiding in his attic.
When the first officer arrived, Jones, standing outside near a parked vehicle, shouted toward the officer before firing multiple rounds from a handgun in the officer’s direction. The officer did not return fire. Jones then fled into a nearby home that was not his own but surrendered to police shortly after.
No officers, bystanders, or the suspect were injured. Officers canvassed the neighborhood to ensure no one else was harmed and no property was damaged by gunfire.
Jones was arrested and booked into the Rockwall County Detention Center. He is charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon Against a Peace Officer, a first-degree felony. His bond was set at $2.5 million.
The case remains under investigation by the Rockwall Police Department Criminal Investigations Division.
