TEXARKANA, Texas — Police say a man was taken into custody early Tuesday after officers discovered him asleep behind the wheel of a van parked on the track at Liberty-Eylau High School.
Officers responding to the unusual call on September 23 found 23-year-old Jarod Welch inside the vehicle. Welch told officers he did not know how he ended up on the football field.
Police determined Welch had several misdemeanor warrants and placed him under arrest. A search uncovered methamphetamine in his pocket and two stolen Amazon packages in the van, which investigators say were taken from a porch the night before.
Welch was booked into the Bi-State Jail on charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance and Theft of Mail, in addition to the warrants. His bond was set at $15,000.
