Deputies Respond to Reported Gunfire, Break Up Dog Fight in Harleton

HARLETON, Texas — Harrison County deputies responded to Gatlin Road on Thursday night after a caller reported hearing gunshots following a loud argument.

The caller told deputies he had been outside smoking when he overheard a couple arguing, followed by three gunshots, a woman screaming, and then two more gunshots. Deputies searched the area but were unable to pinpoint a location for the reported shots.

While patrolling, deputies heard a woman screaming and found her in her front yard appearing to struggle. At first, it looked as if she was fighting with someone, but deputies discovered she was attempting to stop two of her dogs from attacking a smaller one.

A deputy intervened, separating the animals. The woman, who owned all three dogs, was knocked to the ground during the scuffle. She told deputies she did not know why the fight started. The smaller dog was injured but survived after deputies helped secure the other two animals.

No evidence of gunfire was found during the response.
