Two Inmates Hospitalized After Suspected Overdose at Polk County Jail; Felony Charges Filed

POLK COUNTY, TX – Two Polk County inmates were rushed to the hospital Saturday afternoon after suspected drug overdoses inside the jail.

At approximately 12:49 p.m. on September 6, correctional officers and narcotics detectives responded to a medical emergency in a male housing pod, where inmates Tyler Lance Williams, 31, of Point Blank, and Fredrick Duane Evans Jr., 30, of Onalaska, were found unresponsive.

Jail staff immediately administered multiple doses of Narcan before EMS arrived. Both inmates were stabilized and transported to a local hospital for further treatment.

Investigators believe the men ingested K2, a synthetic narcotic, prior to the incident. A search of the housing pod and the inmates’ belongings revealed no additional contraband. Detectives reviewed security footage and interviewed witnesses, which led to charges being filed.

Both Williams and Evans now face Possession of a Prohibited Substance/Item in a Correctional Facility, a third-degree felony under Texas Penal Code §38.11.

The investigation is ongoing.
