Sherman Police Arrest Suspect After Shots Fired at Home

SHERMAN, TX — A Sherman man is in custody following a shots-fired incident that occurred last weekend on Crescent Drive.

On Saturday, August 23, 2025, at approximately 10:29 a.m., officers responded to reports of gunfire at a residence in the 1800 block of Crescent Drive. Investigators located multiple shell casings outside the home and confirmed the residence had been struck by gunfire. Detectives determined the incident was not random and that the individuals involved knew each other.

Through the course of the investigation, detectives identified 43-year-old Jared Steven Butler as the suspect. Arrest warrants were obtained for two counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, along with a warrant for a parole violation.

On Thursday, August 28, 2025, Butler was located in Sadler, Texas. After a vehicle pursuit, he was taken into custody without further incident. In addition to the outstanding warrants, the Texas Department of Public Safety filed multiple felony charges against Butler.  His total bond was set at $275,000.

The Sherman Police Department expressed gratitude to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office, and the Pottsboro Police Department K9 unit for their assistance in the investigation and arrest.
