Farmersville Police Warn Residents of Phone and Billing Scams Targeting Community

FARMERSVILLE, TX — The Farmersville Police Department has issued a public service announcement warning residents about a series of elaborate scams currently circulating in the area. Authorities urge the public to remain vigilant and share the information with others, particularly those who may be more vulnerable.

Scam #1: Fake Donation Calls Using Police Department Number
Scammers are spoofing the Farmersville Police Department’s phone number to call residents and solicit donations. Police emphasized they will never call residents to request donations, and any such call—even if appearing to come from their number—is fraudulent.

Scam #2: Threatening Calls From Unknown Numbers
Victims are also reporting calls from unknown numbers where the caller claims they received a call from the victim's phone. The scammer then becomes aggressive, makes threats, and demands money. These calls often occur at night to cause panic.

Scam #3: Fake Bills and Service Offers
Another scam involves receiving fake utility bills or messages claiming to be from service providers like AT&T. Victims are urged to call a number and provide personal information under the guise of service changes or promotions.

Safety Reminders from Police:

  • Never give out personal or financial information over the phone.

  • Verify any suspicious contact by calling the official number listed on an agency or company’s website or your bill.

  • If contacted by someone claiming to be law enforcement, hang up and call the department directly to confirm.

  • Once money is sent to scammers, it is unlikely to be recovered.

Residents with questions or concerns are encouraged to contact the Farmersville Police Department at 972-782-6141.
