BRYAN, Texas — On July 21, 2025, a Brazos County jury sentenced Larry Bollin to life in prison and a $10,000 fine for the murder of Timothy Smith. The sentencing followed a guilty verdict delivered on Friday, July 18.
The charges stem from an April 8, 2021, mass shooting at Kent Moore Cabinets in Bryan, Texas. According to testimony and evidence presented at trial, Bollin arrived at work that day with a handgun hidden in his lunch cooler. After the afternoon break, Bollin pulled the weapon and shot Smith multiple times without warning. He then fired at least 20 more shots in various directions inside the facility.
During the shooting, Bollin wounded Walter Vega, Juan Ordonez, Isidoro Leal, and Juan Uribe. Co-worker Nathan Whited attempted to intervene and asked Bollin why he was shooting. Bollin replied, “I’ll show you why,” then reloaded and shot Whited multiple times. Whited was left critically injured and later shot again in the back while lying defenseless on the floor.
Bollin fled the warehouse and returned to his home in Iola. As law enforcement attempted to arrest him, he shot Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Juan Tovar in the face with a rifle. Tovar, now a sergeant, survived but lost his left eye.
During the sentencing phase, jurors heard emotional testimony from the mothers of Nathan Whited and Juan Ordonez and the wife of Juan Uribe, all of whom spoke about the lasting physical and emotional toll of the attack.
The case was prosecuted by Brazos County District Attorney Jarvis Parsons and Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Hebert.
“Brazos County was changed forever by this defendant’s actions. The jury protected us all today when they sentenced Larry Bollin to life,” Parsons and Hebert said in a joint statement.
Multiple agencies assisted in the investigation and arrest of Bollin, including Bryan Police Department and the Texas Department of Public Safety.
