Since taking office on January 1, 2025, Sheriff Shook and his team conducted a thorough audit of the Fannin County Sheriff’s Office operations. During this review, officials discovered a significant discrepancy involving inmate accounts and third-party transactions.
Further investigation revealed approximately $230,000 missing, with the suspected theft occurring between May 2021 and May 2025. The individual identified as responsible is 31-year-old Krystal Wilson, a records clerk.
Wilson was immediately removed from her duties and barred from access to county systems and facilities. A criminal probe led by the Texas Rangers followed at Sheriff Shook’s request.
On June 26, 2025, a Fannin County Grand Jury indicted Wilson for First Degree Felony Theft. She subsequently turned herself in and was booked into Collin County Jail on a $500,000 bond.
The Fannin County Sheriff’s Office coordinated closely with the Criminal District Attorney’s Office, County Auditor, Texas Rangers, La Salle Corrections, and other agencies throughout the investigation.
To address the financial loss, a comprehensive plan has been put in place to ensure no impact on county taxpayers or services.
The Sheriff’s Office emphasized its commitment to transparency, accountability, and responsible management of public resources, stating that Wilson’s criminal actions are contrary to the department’s core values.
