A Mexican national residing illegally in Mount Pleasant has been indicted on federal charges in the Eastern District of Texas, according to Acting U.S. Attorney Jay R. Combs.
Jose Solorio-Martinez, 38, was named in a federal indictment returned by a grand jury last week. He is charged with illegally reentering the United States after having previously been deported.
According to the indictment, Solorio-Martinez was found unlawfully present in the U.S. on April 24, 2025, in Mount Pleasant. He had previously been deported to Mexico on August 8, 2017.
This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a Department of Justice initiative targeting illegal immigration, transnational criminal organizations, and violent crime. The operation involves collaboration between the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) and Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN).
If convicted, Solorio-Martinez faces up to two years in federal prison and subsequent deportation.
The investigation is being conducted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security Investigations, Texas Department of Public Safety, FBI, and the Mount Pleasant Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Lauren Richards.
A federal indictment is not evidence of guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
