Registered Sex Offender and Convicted Murderer Arrested in Crockett for Failing to Register Address

Gregory James Mills

Gregory James Mills, a registered sex offender serving a 99-year sentence for attempted capital murder, has been arrested for failing to comply with sex offender registration requirements. The arrest followed a compliance check by the Crockett Police Department on Sunday, June 22, 2025.

Mills, registered as residing in Crockett, was convicted of Sexual Assault in 1985 and Attempt to Commit Capital Murder in Walker County in 1991. As a registered sex offender, he is legally obligated to notify authorities before and after any change of address.

During the compliance check, a Crockett patrol officer spoke with family members at Mills' registered residence, who informed the officer that Mills had moved to Willis, Texas. Investigators confirmed this on Tuesday, June 24, with assistance from the Willis Police Department, discovering that Mills had been living there for approximately three weeks without notifying either the Crockett or Willis police departments of his change in status.

Consequently, investigators requested an arrest warrant in Houston County for Failure to Comply with Sex Offender Duty to Register Lifetime/Annual, a Third-Degree Felony. Judge Ronnie Jordan issued the warrant the same day, and Mills was taken into custody without incident by the Willis Police Department.

Mills was initially transported to the Montgomery County Jail and was transferred back to Houston County on June 30th. The Texas Department of Criminal Justice Parole Division has since issued a parole warrant for Mills, rendering him ineligible for bond.
