A female driver was arrested late Wednesday, June 25, 2025, by the Southmayd Police Department after being pulled over for speeding and suspected impaired driving. She now faces charges of Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Passenger and Possession of a Controlled Substance, Penalty Group 1.
At approximately 11:40 PM, Officer Shipman initiated a traffic stop on State Highway 289 after observing a vehicle traveling at 80 mph in a 65 mph zone and swerving within its lane. Upon contact, the officer noted signs of intoxication in the female driver, including glassy eyes and slurred speech. A young child was present in the rear passenger seat. The driver stated she and her son were returning to Denison, TX, from a sporting event in Frisco.
After the driver consented to Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFSTs), Officer Shipman determined there was probable cause for arrest. A subsequent vehicle inventory, conducted with Officer Barrett's assistance, revealed a straw and multiple small baggies containing a white powdery substance, which field-tested positive for cocaine.
The driver was transported to a local hospital for a blood draw before being booked into the Grayson County Jail. She is charged with Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Passenger Under 15 Years of Age (State Jail Felony) and Possession of a Controlled Substance, Penalty Group 1, Less Than 1 Gram (State Jail Felony).
