Former Winnsboro ISD Teacher and Coach Arrested for Improper Relationship with Student

Nicholas Gabriele

Wood County investigators have arrested Nicholas Gabriele, a former teacher and assistant football coach at Winnsboro High School, for an alleged improper relationship with a student.

Gabriele, who was employed by Winnsboro ISD during the 2024-25 school year as an economics teacher and assistant football coach, is accused of beginning a sexual relationship with a high school student sometime during that period. Investigators received information and evidence, including concerns from community members, indicating that Gabriele had been having sex with the student.

An arrest warrant was issued by Wood County, and Gabriele was subsequently located in Ennis, where he was arrested by Ellis County deputies without incident. Investigators stated that he admitted to the improper relationship. Gabriele has been charged with improper relationship between an educator and student, a second-degree felony.

Winnsboro ISD released a statement regarding Gabriele's arrest: "Winnsboro ISD was notified today that a former employee of the District has been arrested in another county and charged with having an inappropriate relationship with a student. This individual previously resigned from Winnsboro ISD, prior to these accusations coming to light. He is no longer an employee of the District and is no longer associated with Winnsboro ISD in any capacity. This is an active and ongoing investigation being handled by law enforcement. The District is cooperating fully with the appropriate authorities and will continue to do so as the investigation progresses. At this time, Winnsboro ISD does not have any further information to share. The safety and well-being of our students remains our highest priority."
