A multi-agency search is actively underway on Lake Lavon for a missing Dallas Fire Department firefighter whose kayak overturned near Bratonia Park on the morning of Saturday, June 21, 2025.
The Collin County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report from a witness who saw a kayaker and a dog in the water, but later only observed the dog paddling near the overturned vessel. The dog has since been safely rescued and is reported to be in good condition.
The Collin County Sheriff’s Office immediately deployed patrol units, drone operators, and its dive team to begin search operations. Wylie Fire Rescue’s marine unit quickly joined the effort, and additional boats and resources from various partner agencies are assisting. The Dallas Fire Department is also providing marine support.
Search conditions have been described as challenging due to high winds and submerged trees. Dive operations were conducted throughout Saturday and are scheduled to resume at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 22.
Agencies assisting in the extensive search include Wylie Fire Rescue, Lucas Fire Department, Princeton Fire Department, Dallas Fire Department, Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Wardens, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and AMR.
Incident Command is operating out of Bratonia Park on Lake Lavon, which remains closed to the public. Authorities are requesting that community members avoid the area to allow emergency responders to continue their operations safely and efficiently. The Collin County Sheriff’s Office expressed gratitude to all assisting agencies.
