On Friday, June 20, 2025, at approximately 4:03 p.m., Sherman Police were dispatched to the 1700 block of South Heritage Parkway following reports of a male suspect who had pointed a firearm at a store clerk during an attempted robbery.
According to investigators, the suspect entered the store and attempted to purchase alcohol but was denied the sale due to his lack of photo identification. The man then retrieved a firearm from his vehicle, returned to the store, displayed the weapon, and threatened to kill the clerk. He fled the scene after learning that police had been called.
Officers quickly launched a search and located the suspect shortly after in the 2500 block of West Center Street. A firearm was recovered from the suspect’s vehicle.
The suspect, identified as 20-year-old Bawi Hlun Thang, was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
Police noted that only 33 minutes passed between the initial 911 call and the suspect's arrest, crediting efficient communication between dispatch, patrol, and detectives for the swift resolution.
