Suspicious PVC Pipe with Liquid Prompts Bomb Squad Response in Rowlett

A suspicious sealed PVC pipe containing an unknown liquid prompted a multi-agency response and temporary road closures in Rowlett on Friday, June 20, 2025. The Rowlett Police Department received a call at approximately 8:22 AM regarding the device.

The reporting party told authorities that on Thursday, someone had mowed over the pipe, and the individual subsequently picked it up and shook it. Upon returning to work Friday morning, they decided to report the incident.

As a precautionary measure, streets near where the item was found were closed while authorities assessed the potential threat. The Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) Police Department's Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and the Garland Police Department Bomb Squad were called to the scene to assist with the investigation.

DART’s explosive detection K-9 conducted two sweeps of the area and did not locate any additional potential explosive devices or flammable materials. The Garland Police Department Bomb Squad X-rayed the device, which revealed only liquid inside. The device was then safely moved to an open area where it was cut open, and its contents were examined.

The liquid substance appeared to be water, though definitive confirmation is pending further testing, and it did not appear to pose any threat to the public. Normal operations resumed after the scene was cleared, and no injuries were reported.

The Rowlett Police Department expressed its appreciation to the DART Explosive Operations Division and the Garland Police Department Bomb Squad for their quick response and professional assistance.
