Prosper Police officers, utilizing Flock camera technology, apprehended a known theft suspect on May 24, leading to charges for retail theft and the discovery of additional potentially stolen merchandise.
On Friday, May 24, officers responded to the area of Preston Road and Richland Boulevard after receiving a "Flock hit" for a vehicle associated with a known theft suspect. The department's Drone First Responder (DFR) unit was deployed and located the vehicle parked outside a local retail store.
A Loss Prevention Officer inside the store observed a suspect concealing merchandise and then exiting the store without purchasing the items. Officers contacted and detained the suspect. After reviewing the store's security video and recovering the stolen merchandise, the suspect was arrested for Theft of Property under $2,500 with two or more previous convictions. The suspect also had an outstanding warrant for the same offense.
During their investigation, officers discovered additional merchandise within the suspect’s vehicle. Using Flock technology, officers confirmed the suspect’s vehicle had been present at the same retailer in a neighboring jurisdiction. These items were collected as evidence, and Prosper Police are now collaborating with the neighboring agency's police department to investigate the possible theft.
The Prosper Police Department highlighted this incident as an example of how they are leveraging technology to enhance public safety and fulfill their mission of making the Town of Prosper a safe place to live, work, and visit.
