East Texas A&M University's track and field teams showcased exceptional performance at the Southland Conference (SLC) Outdoor Championship Meet from May 15-17, securing a total of 12 medals, including an impressive seven gold.

Leading the charge for the Lions was sprinter Ibrahim Fuseini, who was named the Men’s Most Outstanding Performer after claiming four gold medals. Fuseini swept the Men’s 100m and Men’s 200m events and anchored both the winning Men’s 4x100m and Men’s 4x400m relay teams.

Other gold medalists included Justin Vincent in the Men’s Long Jump, Romi Griese in the Women’s Discus, and Veronika Kramarenko in the Women’s High Jump. Sprinter Armani Modeste also received a superlative award, being named co-Male Newcomer of the Year.

The Lions also set several new SLC Meet records. The Men’s 4x100m relay team, comprised of Oguz Uyar, Enoch Fosuhene, Armani Modeste, and Ibrahim Fuseini, broke the previous record with a blistering time of 39.36 seconds. Fuseini further shattered the Men’s 200m meet record with a time of 20.20 seconds, also setting a new East Texas A&M school record for the race.

This consistent success marks a strong presence for East Texas A&M in the SLC since joining the conference, having won every Men’s 100m and 200m race in three outdoor meets. The Lions have also claimed gold in the Men’s 4x100m twice out of three attempts and secured the Women’s High Jump gold medal all three years.

In the overall team standings, the Lion men finished fourth with 86 points, while the Lion women placed sixth with 63.5 points. This meet concluded the final athletic event for Lion Athletics in the 2024-25 academic year.
