The Longview Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire at 703 Kay Drive on Wednesday, May 8, 2025, at approximately 4:25 p.m.
Upon arrival, the first fire unit reported heavy smoke and fire conditions originating from the garage of the home. The resident, who was home at the time, told firefighters that he had been mowing the yard and then stored the mower away. He stated he then sat on the front porch to rest briefly, and upon returning to retrieve his weedeater, he discovered the mower and garage were engulfed in flames.
The fire caused an estimated $50,000 in damage to the residence. The homeowner was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation. Tragically, multiple pets perished as a result of the fire. The American Red Cross is providing assistance to the displaced homeowners. No firefighters sustained any injuries during the incident.
The Longview Fire Department deployed a significant response, including three fire engines, two ladder trucks, one ambulance, and four support vehicles, totaling 21 personnel. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
