Kody Whipple, 35, of Cooper, has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the offense of Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Young Child. The sentencing, presided over by District Judge Eddie Northcutt, was the culmination of a case that began with Whipple's arrest on August 21, 2024, on this and several other charges.
The case involved a lengthy investigation by Delta County Sheriff's Office Investigator Samantha Manrique, who dedicated significant time to reviewing evidence and testimony. This work led to Whipple's guilty plea to the charge, which carries a potential sentence of 25 to 99 years or life in prison without parole.
Following a review of evidence detailing years of severe sexual and psychological abuse of his own children, Judge Northcutt imposed the life sentence without the possibility of parole.
The 8th Judicial District Attorney's Office commended the Delta County Sheriff's Office, and specifically Investigator Samantha Manrique, for their "tireless work" and dedication to the case, stating that it "helped ensure justice was served for these victims." They also thanked Judge Northcutt for delivering a sentence that reflects the gravity and lasting impact of Whipple's crimes.
Assistant District Attorney Zachary Blackmon stated, "This case represents the absolute worst kind of abuse—but it also highlights the best of what can happen when law enforcement, prosecutors, and the judiciary align in the pursuit of justice. This case is a clear reminder that those who harm children will face the full force of the law here in Delta County. There is no place in our community for those who abuse the most vulnerable among us."
Whipple remains in custody at the Delta County Jail awaiting transfer to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ).
