Commerce Announces Finalists for Police Chief Position

Corley Weatherford, Paul Odin and John Densmore

The City of Commerce has announced the three finalists for its Police Chief position. The candidates include Corley W. Weatherford, Paul R. Odin, and John Densmore, all bringing extensive law enforcement experience to the table.

Corley W. Weatherford is currently a Criminal Investigation Commander with the Hopkins County Sheriff's Office (HCSO), where he has served since November 2010. He is also a Task Force Officer with the FBI Dallas Field Office Human Trafficking and Child Exploitation Task Force, a role he has held since April 2021.

Paul R. Odin is the current Police Chief of West Columbia, Texas, located in Brazoria County.

John Densmore, a resident of Seagoville, served as the Police Chief in Athens, Texas, from February 2021 to April 2023. Prior to his tenure in Athens, Densmore spent 25 years with the Cedar Hill Police Department. Since 2023, he has been working in the private sector as an investigator.

The finalists will participate in a two-day interview process in early February.

The City of Commerce began its nationwide recruitment process in August 2024, working with Strategic Government Resources (SGR). The search attracted 38 qualified applicants from 10 different states, which was narrowed down to eight semi-finalists and, ultimately, the three finalists.
