On the night of January 17, 2025, Texarkana Police officers arrested 45-year-old Jeffrey Troxel for Assault on a Peace Officer following a violent confrontation on West 11th Street.
Sgt. Nick Tirone responded to a report of a man allegedly pulling a gun during an argument outside a residence in the 1600 block of W. 11th Street. Upon arrival, he encountered a man matching the suspect’s description standing beside a motorcycle. When questioned, the man denied knowledge of the disturbance.
Due to the reported involvement of a firearm, Sgt. Tirone requested to pat down the suspect for weapons. Instead of complying, the man placed his hand in his jacket pocket and began pulling out an object. Acting quickly, Sgt. Tirone restrained the man’s arm, but Troxel responded by punching the officer in the face and lunging at him.
A struggle ensued during which Troxel struck Sgt. Tirone multiple times and attempted to grab the officer’s gun from its holster. Despite sustaining facial bruises and scrapes, Sgt. Tirone maintained control of the situation until Officer Conner Melton arrived to assist in subduing and handcuffing Troxel.
Troxel was later evaluated at a hospital, where officers believe he was under the influence of methamphetamine. Following treatment, he was booked into the Bi-State Jail on charges of felony Assault on a Peace Officer. Troxel also had an active warrant for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon related to a stabbing in DeKalb earlier this month. His total bond was set at $260,000.
Sgt. Tirone’s injuries were minor, and he was able to return to duty that night. The Texarkana Police Department commended his bravery and quick action in a dangerous situation.
