On Christmas Eve, the Trinity County Sheriff's Office responded to a complaint of multiple dogs running loose at a residence on Elephant Walk.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered two dogs in the roadway and observed several others chained in the yard, appearing severely malnourished. One dog was found confined to a small kennel without adequate shelter.
After further investigation, deputies located another dog chained with no food or water and in poor condition.
Sheriff's records indicate that the property owner, 35-year-old Christopher James Rode, had previously been warned about improper animal care and the need to provide adequate shelter.
When confronted, Rode became uncooperative and resisted arrest. He was subsequently taken into custody and faces multiple charges including animal cruelty, resisting arrest, and animal-related violations.
Eight dogs were removed from the property by the Sheriff's Office and placed in their care.
