Longview Independent School District (LISD) Superintendent Dr. Marla Sheppard delivered $3.5 million in Longview Incentive for Teachers (LIFT) checks to all 13 district campuses last week. The performance-based bonuses were awarded under the LIFT program, which rewards educators based on Texas Education Agency (TEA) accountability standards and campus distinctions earned in various academic areas.
The program also recognizes campuses contributing to the district’s overall postsecondary readiness rating, as determined by TEA. The bonuses, part of a board-approved fund balance, aim to retain and reward the district’s most effective educators.
“This program is designed to celebrate the educators who go above and beyond to ensure student success,” said Dr. Sheppard. “These awards recognize their dedication and reflect our commitment to providing high-quality education at all campuses.”
Eligible campuses received bonuses based on distinctions earned in academic performance and readiness indicators. Additional recognition was given to campuses contributing to the district’s overall success.
Dr. Sheppard emphasized that the incentive payments are part of the district’s strategy to foster a culture of motivation and excellence. “Our focus is clear: better student performance means better compensation for our teachers—a fair and motivating structure for everyone involved.”
The 2024 incentive distribution, following a lump-sum disbursement model, began Friday, December 20. Combined with the Texas Education Agency’s Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA), the LIFT bonuses enable many educators to achieve competitive salaries.
Since its launch in 2011, the LIFT program has evolved to include multiple award models while maintaining its core mission of improving student outcomes by rewarding teacher excellence.
Dr. Sheppard encouraged campuses that did not receive distinctions this year to use the opportunity to set ambitious goals for improvement. “We’re excited to see how every campus responds to this year’s achievements as we aim to boost overall academic performance and ensure a thriving learning environment for every student,” she said.
By emphasizing excellence and rewarding high performance, Longview ISD continues to invest in its educators and the future of its students.
