Eric Carroll, 37, of Bryan, was sentenced to 40 years in prison on September 10, 2024, after pleading guilty to multiple charges, including Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, and Burglary of a Habitation.
The charges stem from a November 2022 incident in which Carroll, described as the victim’s ex-boyfriend, allegedly threatened her at gunpoint. Bryan police responded to a 911 call from the woman, who reported being threatened. Upon arrival, officers found bullet casings outside the home and signs of a struggle inside, including broken glass and blood.
Carroll was apprehended shortly after, and gunshot primer residue on his hands matched the casings found at the scene. Additionally, while in jail, Carroll attempted to bribe a witness who had reported the gunshots, offering money in exchange for changing their testimony to claim they had heard fireworks instead.
The severity of Carroll’s sentence was influenced by his criminal history, with the District Attorney’s office describing him as a "habitual offender."
