On May 23, 2024, a Harrison County Deputy initiated a traffic stop after observing a vehicle with an equipment violation on the I-20 service road. The driver, later identified as 46-year-old Fredrick Lee Manning of Morningsports, LA, chose not to comply and led the deputy on a pursuit through multiple parking lots, the service road, and Highway 59.
During the pursuit, the deputy witnessed Manning discarding objects from the vehicle window. Upon apprehension behind the Xpress Inn in Marshal, law enforcement recovered 38 grams of methamphetamine, 3 grams of cocaine, and less than 2 ounces of marijuana.
Manning, who was wearing an ankle monitor at the time of the incident, faced multiple charges including drug possession, evading arrest detention with a vehicle, and violation of parole related to a previous drug dealing conviction. His bond has been set at $262,000.
