Upshur County Murder Suspect Captured in California

In a Thursday morning press conference, the Upshur County Sheriff’s Office announced the capture of 41-year-old Alvin McKnight, the suspect in the murders of two sisters in Upshur County. McKnight was apprehended in San Bernardino, California.

Authorities utilized cellphone tracking to trace McKnight's location as he boarded a bus in Abilene, Texas, and made his way to San Bernardino. San Bernardino Police awaited McKnight at the bus station, successfully apprehending him upon his exit at approximately 11:30 pm.

The victims, Dermetrica Waters (37) and Mandy Ray (35), were discovered deceased on November 4, 2023. Notably, McKnight had a child with one of the victims.

Adding another layer to the case, McKnight's sister, LaQuesha McKnight, was recently arrested for alleged interference with/hindrance of the investigation. She is accused of aiding McKnight in escaping the Upshur County area on the night of the murders.
