A concerning incident unfolded at the Hopkins County Jail when an inmate attacked a Corrections Officer, leaving the officer injured and prompting swift action from Deputy J. Wilkerson.

Deputy Wilkerson received a notification about the incident and immediately rushed to the scene. Upon arrival, he found the Corrections Officer with visible redness on both sides of his face and dried blood, indicating the severity of the attack.

According to the Jail Staff, the incident occurred during the relocation of inmates from their cells to the recreation room. Gregory Oldfield Jr., 25, of Garland, Texas, became uncooperative during the process. In an attempt to restrain him, Oldfield Jr. struck the Corrections Officer multiple times in the face, causing injury. With the assistance of other Jail Staff members, they managed to gain control over Oldfield Jr. and escorted him to a secure V-Cell.

Oldfield Jr. was already in jail due to two open warrants issued by the Fannin County Sheriff's Office for aggravated assault of a public servant and a U.S. Marshals warrant for a weapon offense.

Deputy Wilkerson attempted to engage Oldfield Jr. in conversation, but the inmate refused to communicate. Consequently, Deputy Wilkerson informed Oldfield Jr. about his additional charge and proceeded to book him for the new offense of assaulting a public servant.
