On Sunday, October 29, 2023, at 1:03 a.m., a Beaumont Police Department (BPD) officer was involved in a collision when his patrol vehicle was struck by an intoxicated driver. The incident occurred in the 2600 Block of the IH-10 Eastbound Service Road.
The officer was traveling westbound when the collision took place. The impact of the crash caused the patrol vehicle to spin and collide with a utility pole, ultimately coming to a stop in the middle of the roadway.
Swiftly responding to the situation, assisting officers placed the injured BPD officer into another patrol unit and rushed him to a local hospital for immediate medical attention. The injured officer is expected to make a full recovery from the sustained injuries.
Upon investigation, it was revealed that the driver of the at-fault vehicle, identified as 26-year-old Rayshirra Thompson, a resident of Beaumont, was intoxicated at the time of the collision. Thompson was subsequently arrested and is facing charges of Intoxication Assault.
