Tyler Junior College (TJC) police arrested five suspects believed to be connected to a series of aggravated assaults that occurred over the past two weeks in Tyler.
According to TJC police, the incidents involved multiple cases of aggravated assaults. Investigators managed to identify a Nissan Altima used by the suspects. On Friday afternoon, law enforcement officers spotted the vehicle. TJC police attempted to stop the car, but the suspects allegedly fled, initiating a pursuit that ended at a dead end on 6th Street near the campus.
The three occupants of the Nissan attempted to escape on foot but were eventually captured and detained by TJC officers. One suspect reportedly led police on a chase through the campus before being apprehended.
In addition to the three arrests made at the scene, two more suspects were apprehended earlier in the day in connection with the aggravated assaults. The Tyler Police Department and Smith County Sheriff’s Office collaborated with campus officers to execute the arrests.
