Paris Police officers arrested Rodney Sherman Willis of Paris on October 2, 2023, following a routine traffic stop on the 400 block of Bonham St. at 10:52 AM. Willis was pulled over for driving with an expired driver's license, which he did not have with him at the time. He was subsequently taken into custody for Failure to Display License.
During the course of the investigation, officers discovered that Willis was a suspect in a hit-and-run incident that occurred on Friday, September 29, resulting in a fatality. The victim of the accident passed away on Sunday, October 1. Police learned that Willis was in the vicinity during the incident and located his vehicle hidden behind his residence, indicating an attempt to evade authorities.
While in custody for the initial charge, Willis confessed to being the driver in the fatal hit-and-run accident. Consequently, officers charged him with Leaving the Scene of an Accident Involving Death.
