Teen Arrested in Connection with Mt. Lebanon CME Church Fire in Upshur County

Upshur County Deputies arrested a 16-year-old juvenile in relation to the burning of Mt. Lebanon CME Church, located at 10121 Squirrel Road, Pittsburg, TX. The incident occurred on Friday, September 29, at approximately 7:41 pm. Responding to reports of a church fire, deputies arrived at the scene to find the Mt. Lebanon CME Church building almost completely destroyed.

Near the church, deputies discovered a wrecked car, which led them to the suspect. The 16-year-old confessed to both wrecking the car and causing the fire at the church. Consequently, the juvenile has been charged with felony arson. Presently, the suspect is being held at the Gregg County Juvenile Detention Facility. The church, unfortunately, has suffered extensive damage and is deemed nearly a total loss. Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
