On Monday, September 18th, 2023 the Panola County Sheriff's Office was notified by the Richland Parish Sheriff's Office in Rayville, Louisiana that an inmate, Jeremy Dewayne Young, escaped from a work release detail and might possibly have fled to Panola County. Patrol Deputies and Investigators were alerted and began gathering further information.
On Tuesday Investigators became aware of a potential location on County Road 328 in DeBerry and began surveillance. They observed a vehicle parked at the residence that was reported stolen out of Carthage and was suspected of being involved in the escape. Investigators prepared a search warrant for the premises which was executed by the Sheriff's Office and both Constables' Offices.
The fugitive was arrested inside the residence and three other occupants were detained. Deputies observed drug paraphernalia in plain view which resulted in an evidentiary search warrant being issued and executed which resulted in the recovery of methamphetamine.
Jeremy Young was charged with the Richland Parish escape warrant and possession of a controlled substance. Ronnie Bamburg, Kelli Anne Long, and Kimberly Giddings were charged with hindering apprehension and possession of a controlled substance. Kelli Long was charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle and Kimberly Giddings was charged with failure to identify after giving a false name.
