In late June 2023, the Wood County Sheriff's Office initiated an investigation following a report from the Lake Fork Special Utilities District regarding a suspected theft. The report alleged that Rachel Sneed, an employee hailing from Mineola, was involved in the embezzlement of around $40,000 from the Utility District. The case was transferred to the Criminal Investigations Division for further examination.
As the investigation progressed, it was revealed that Sneed had allegedly stolen a staggering sum of over $300,000 through various means over a three-year period spanning from 2021 to 2023. On September 19, 2023, a warrant for Sneed's arrest was issued by Justice of the Peace Pct. 1 Judge Gilbreath. She was charged with the serious offense of Theft over $300,000, classified as a First-Degree Felony.
On the morning of September 20, 2023, Rachel Sneed voluntarily surrendered herself at the Wood County Jail. She is currently being held on a bond amounting to $100,000 as the legal proceedings continue.
