The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office Vehicle Crimes Unit is actively investigating the accident that occurred around 6 a.m. today at I-20 and St. Augustine Dr. They are seeking the community’s assistance in locating and identifying a dark-colored Dodge/Chrysler-type vehicle and the identity of the driver that was involved in the accident and fled the scene.

Early this morning, Officer Darrin McMichael, a dedicated 24-year veteran of the Arlington Police Department (APD), lost his life in a traffic accident near Interstate 20 and Dowdy Ferry Road in Dallas.
The accident occurred as Officer McMichael was on his way to work, heading into what would have been another day of service to his community.
Officer McMichael, Badge #1805, was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced deceased from his injuries.
McMichael had served the Arlington Police Department for over two decades. For the past 13 years, he had been a devoted member of the Motorcycle Unit, contributing his skills and dedication to keeping the streets safe. Throughout his career, he had also worked as a patrol officer and detective in the North Patrol District.
Chief of Police Al Jones expressed the profound sadness felt within the department, saying, "Officer Darrin McMichael was a respected and beloved member of our APD family. We are heartbroken and we are hurting. This is a devastating loss that will be felt for a long time. Please pray for his wife, who is also an APD employee, his family, his friends, and his APD family. They need all the support they can get right now."
