In an unusual turn of events on Tuesday morning, September 19, 2023, at approximately 6:40 AM, a Paris police officer rushed to Lake Crook in response to a distress call from a local resident. The victim, who had been seeking to enjoy a peaceful sunrise at the lake, found himself in an unexpected predicament.
According to the victim's account, he had parked his vehicle near the boat ramp at Lake Crook to savor the early morning view. While seated in the driver's seat with the car in reverse, an unfortunate incident occurred. The victim's cup of hot coffee toppled over, scalding him and causing intense pain. In his reaction to the searing discomfort, he inadvertently lifted his foot from the brake pedal.
As a result, the vehicle began to roll backward, making contact with the water. With mounting astonishment, the victim found himself floating away from the boat ramp and into the lake's depths. In a quick-thinking move, he managed to roll down his car window, escape the submerged vehicle, and dialed Paris Dispatch to request assistance.
Paris emergency services responded to the scene, where a wrecker service was called in to recover the waterlogged vehicle, which was rendered inoperable by the incident. Remarkably, the victim, despite the initial shock and scalding, declined medical assistance from EMS personnel.
