The Longview Police Department acted quickly in response to a shooting incident, leading to the arrest of John Lee Smith III (25) on August 25, 2023. The incident, which occurred on the evening of August 23, resulted in a victim sustaining life-threatening injuries.
Following the report of the shooting, Longview Police initiated an investigation and determined that the incident had taken place within the city limits.
An arrest warrant was obtained for John Lee Smith III on the charge of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon (F/2). However, the situation was further complicated as Smith was already out on a $125,000 bond for previous charges, including Murder and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
To execute a safe arrest, the Longview SWAT Team was deployed to a local residence on August 25, 2023. The operation resulted in the successful apprehension of John Lee Smith III, who surrendered without incident.
