Como Teen Arrested After High-Speed Chase Through Hopkins County

A high-speed chase concluded in Como, Texas on August 26, 2023, when a Hopkins County Sheriff's Deputy apprehended 17-year-old Giovanni Munoz. At around 11:30 p.m., the deputy observed Munoz's vehicle speeding on FM 2948, heading toward FM 1567. Radar confirmed the vehicle was traveling at 72 mph in a 55 mph zone.

The deputy attempted a traffic stop, activating emergency lights and sirens. Munoz ignored the signals and continued driving, initiating a pursuit. Speeds exceeded 100 mph as the chase moved northbound on FM 1567 and then onto Highway 11 East. The pursuit proceeded into Como, where it turned southbound on McBride Street and ended with the vehicle crashing into a ditch.

More deputies joined the pursuit and conducted a high-risk traffic stop. Munoz exited the vehicle without resistance and was taken into custody. He was later booked into Hopkins County Jail on a charge of evading detention/arrest with a vehicle, classified as a felony of the third degree (F3).
