Hit-and-Run Leaves Homeless Man in Critical Condition: Terrell Police Launch Investigation

In an incident on Friday, August 11, 2023, a hit-and-run incident left a homeless man seriously injured and fighting for his life. The Terrell Police Department received a distressing 9-1-1 call at approximately 7:02 a.m. from a concerned passerby who discovered an injured individual lying in the grass on the side of the road in the 700 block of E. Moore Ave.

The victim was identified as Jefferson Moufa, a 31-year-old from Kingwood, Texas. Moufa, who had no current address and was listed as homeless in Terrell P.D. records, was found in a grave condition. Terrell Fire Department personnel responded swiftly to the scene, providing immediate medical assistance and requesting the dispatch of a Careflite helicopter to transport Moufa to a nearby hospital for critical care.

The initial investigation by Advanced Traffic Investigations along with assistance by the Patrol Division reveal that Moufa was likely struck by an unknown vehicle, which then fled the scene. As of 1:30 P.M., Moufa was still in surgery at Parkland Hospital and was listed in critical condition.

Anyone with information related to this investigation is asked to call Investigator S.W. Johns at 469-474-2656.
